The time came to head home!

And thus, after about 9 months of working as a first year snow-sports instructor and mountain guide, I returned home!

When I got home sadly I no longer had a car (my Odyssey died last year), so I began to work on getting a new set of wheels.
In this time I went to my 5 year high school reunion (pretty much nothing changed), caught up with some friends, and tried to organize my life for the next year! And at this point I also worked on a rough 5 year plan. It's pretty hard to know exactly what the future will hold, but guiding is one of my favorite things in the world. The current goal is to work with the two companies I'm with now (Alaska Mountain Guides and Heavenly), and possibly look at more prestigious companies (i.e. NOLS or Outward Bound) in a few years when I have more experience. And the first necessary step to making that dream come alive was find a set of wheels to head out West! (Where I'm going to the right) |
The attempt to find a good set of wheels actually led us to working on buying a new car! It turned out to be cheaper to do it that way then to buy a used Subaru, as hardly anyone buys a Subaru for just a few years. In the mean time, I spent a lot of time organizing my life into just a few bags to take out West with me. This process involved going through all my stuff at home, and preparing most of my stuff to be ready to put into my car. After about a week, everything but a few diplomas and trophies were organized in bags!
I also seized the opportunity to catch up with my family! My brother is now starting for his Varsity soccer team, so I went to watch a few of his games! We also got the opportunity to just hang out and watch some football, which was great!
And after about a week of looking at prices, and figuring out options, we settled on this baby! She still doesn't have a name yet, but boy is she a beauty!!!
And with a new set of wheels, I had about 4 days to go around Durham and catch up with people! I got to see these two movies which were pretty sweet! (Gravity was particularly good)

And then the big day finally rolled around! I got my car packed, and began the road-trip out West!
First stop: Athens!
