This page is dedicated to my gap-time between my first season with Alaska Mountain Guides and my second season at Heavenly. Here you can see pictures from a trip I took to Montana, and then stories and photos from my cross country road trip. Enjoy!
Road Tripping Out West
Denver, Co
Upon arriving in Denver, my friend quickly rallied me back out the door to enjoy some Denver hiking. As you can imagine, I was absolutely thrilled to get to see the mile high city from a higher perspective...
The next morning we decided to go for another little stroll to take in the sights
When we got closer to the cliff we saw the scenic staircase to the left and took some pictures. We then walked up and saw a 360º view of Denver and its surrounding hills. To our right we had the community of Golden and the Coors Brewery, in front of us we had the suburb of Arvada, and way off to our left was the Metropolis of Denver.
After spending our morning in nature, we got in my friend's car and headed into Denver! It was really cool being in a big city with the Rockies in the background. While we were in Denver we took a bus about 20 blocks from our car, and then walked back through Denver's scenic walkways. When we arrived back to our car after the walk, I decided I definitely need to spend another day in the Mile High City.
So I did! And the next day we kicked the day off by checking out the awesome local skate parks!

We then met a friend and headed to Boulder to explore their wonderful woods!
Upon arriving in Boulder we ran to the hills to explore the trails. I was immediately blown away by the quality and quantity of incredible hikes in the area. The hike we choose was the Mallory Cave Trail (despite the cave being closed), as it was the quickest option for awesome views.

After about 45 minutes of hiking, we arrived at our lookout!
After two days in Denver I really didn't want to leave, but the road trip had to go on! So I packed my bags and hit the road for the most scenic part of my cross country drive.
To Salt Lake City, UT and Beyond
Upon arriving in Salt Lake, I was treated to dinner by my friend.
What happened next you wonder?!
What happened next you wonder?!
And at long last!
After 3,247 miles in 50+ hours of driving in this crazy journey...
South Lake Tahoe, Ca
And thus ended my road trip across the country.
This trip wouldn't have been half as good if it hadn't been for the awesome people who helped me along the way. My friends showed me around their cities, and helped me to see and experience each region in all its splendor. The meetings over coffee, the parties, and the adventures all really made the trip for me. (And the trip wouldn't have happened in the first place if my family hadn't helped me as much as they did.)
At this point I'm not really sure what the next stage of my life will hold, but there is one thing I know for certain...

WINTER IS COMING!
Can't. Freaking. Wait!

The Road to Denver
Athens, Ga
After leaving Durham, NC I first stopped in Athens, GA to visit my college and friends still living there. While I was there I did a bit of running, created this blog, and caught up with a lot of my friends. It was a blast, but sadly before I knew it the week was over and it came time to head to Boone, NC...
Boone, Nc
In Boone I stayed with a friend I met from Alaska Mountain Guides (Tom). Thanks to my friend, my time in Boone flew by as we climbed, partied, and explored Western Carolina.
The bulk of the pictures below came from the days we went climbing and my drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. |
I don't know what the problem below is called, but I got on top of it either way!
And it wouldn't be a Peyser-Post without plenty of awesome nature pictures!
Not pictured here: Chris Peyser getting WEIRD on Halloween. Rest assured it was weird.
And after a week in Boone, the meat of the road trip begun! After Boone I headed up to Indiana for a few days to hang out with Taylor (an old college friend). |
Bloomington, IN
You might be wondering at this stage, what is there to do in Indiana? The answer won't surprise you - there's nothing you can do in Indiana (other than drinking). My 36 hour stay in Bloomington involved a bit of running, and then checking out the local bars and tailgates. Then I got back on the road!
Lawrence, Ks
Do you know what Lawrence and Bloomington have in common? For starters, they are both college towns (IU and KU) and they also happen to be located near absolutely nothing. But really, I was just at KU for the night so there aren't many stories from there.

Hiking Lone Mountain
In late September I headed to Big Sky, MT for a conference on longitudinal clerkships. I was there both to visit my dad, and to attend a clinic on wilderness medicine myself.
Fortunately for us, we had a bit of time to explore when we weren't attending the conference. On one of my days off, a couple of my Dad's friends and I decided to try to hike up on Lone Mountain, and see how high we could get.
(Above) The objective: Get as high on that bad boy as possible!

Some early views on the way up:
Fortunately for us, as we continued up the views just got better and better!
And after about two hours of hiking, we reached our objective!
Below is a little slideshow of the views from the top
And it wouldn't be a Peyser Adventure without some shenanigans!
Some Bird hunting!
